Matt 5:38-39 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

It is very hard today to resist evil. That Old Testament principal of an eye for an eye was to make sure the punishment fit the crime. That the harmed or offended party would not take the punishment to a higher degree than the crime demanded. In the New Testament for the Christian the love and forgiveness of Christ should rule in our heats. But isn’t it difficult to allow the love of God to guide us when we have been harmed or offended? It is hard to resist evil today. Yet we know how we are to treat a bother. – Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. And we know as well how we are to treat the lost. – Matt 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; When we find it hard to react as the Bible commands us to as Christians we need to ask the Lord to help us resist the evil. We need to ask Him to help us step out of our flesh and walk in the Spirit.
