1 Thess 5:22-23 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

To be preserved blameless unto the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ the Christian must abstain from all appearance of evil. This is not a matter of salvation but of walking in the light and living a life pleasing to the Lord after salvation. The context of the passage clearly shows that the Bible is addressing the born again believer in Christ. Yet today we see most who claim the name of Christ stained with the evil of the world. We see it in worldly habits, in worldly actions, in worldly entertainment, in worldly desires and so on. Very few today are seen following the clear command of verse 22. Is it any wonder then that we have a weak and seemingly powerless church today. The problem is not the world, not the Spirit of God, but the believer refusing to abstain from evil. What of your life today, what of your appearance before God and the world? Can you say it is one apart from evil? If not we need to begin to follow God’s command.
