Today is Labor Day, a day set aside to honor the American laborer. I hope all have a good day of rest away from the job. As Christians we have a rest coming, a rest given to us by Jesus Christ, and a rest that we wait for with great anticipation. Notice our text verse for today. The Bible tells us we “May rest from our labors; and their works do follow them”. Today on Labor Day many will rest that have nothing to rest from. Those who are unemployed, those on social services and so on. Now some of them are on those service at no fault of their own. Jobs have been eliminated and they are looking for work but have found none to this point while others are on those services because they want to be and have learned to play the system. For those ones they have nothing to rest from, they have no part in Labor Day down here. Don’t let that be said of you in heaven Christian. Notice the text again, we rest after work, our works follow us to heaven. Don’t be found resting in heaven with no works to show. There is much to do for the Lord in this world, people to tell the gospel who are lost and need it, prayers to be offered up for those in need, work to do in our churches and so on. There is much to do and we have a rest coming. Let us be sure that we have something to rest from in heaven.
