August 17th, 2012 by Pastor SolleyRom 13:8-14 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. 11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Spent a great deal of time in the car yesterday and was able to think about what was posted as our devotional for the day and concluded that we do owe quite a lot. As far as government and society are concerned we are not to be a burden, owe no man, but are to be a positive influence and a productive part of society. But we owe so much to our Lord and many things then are brought out in these verses. First, to live that holy and righteous life in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit within. (Verse 9) Second, to love the world and despise it, showing the love of Christ that will bring the lost to Him. (Verse 10) Third, to be more active and not less for Christ in these last day. (Verse 11) Fourth, to be honest in our walk before God and the world. In other words to have the life that backs up our talk and testimony. Fifth, to let others see Christ in us everyday and all the time. (Verse 14) If you take time to think about it we do owe a lot.
