1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. What of the promises of God? If we are given exceeding great and precious promises shouldn’t we then be able to live above this world? Above the corruption, above the lust, above the sin, shouldn’t we be able to live above these things even though they be all around us? Why are so many overcome by the world? Why are so many discouraged in this world? Why do so many fall in the spiritual battle if we have the promises of God?
I fear many want to claim the promises of God and not walk with God. Let your mind and heart be given to the one who made the promises. Think much of God, think much of the power of God, think much of the grace of God, think much of God. Set your affections on things above and not on things of the earth. Be given more to God and perhaps we will find we are then walking in the promises of God, walking above the world. Who has your heart and mind today? Who or what did you begin the day with? Was it more important to turn on the TV or talk with God? Was it more important to get the news or read the Bible? One cannot fasten their eyes of the world and walk in the promises of God.
