Hosea 4:1-6 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: For the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, Because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. 2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, And blood toucheth blood. 3 Therefore shall the land mourn, And every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, With the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; Yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. 4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: For thy people are as they that strive with the priest. 5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, And the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, And I will destroy thy mother. 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: Because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: Seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

The Lord had a problem, a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There was no truth, mercy, or knowledge of God in the land. But why? Was it because God had withheld it from them? Was it because God did not want or chose them? No, the problem, the controversy was because they rejected God and rejected God’s knowledge. (Verse 6) Because they chose to reject God, God rejected them. It is the same with the lost sinner who will stand before God in judgment one day and be cast into hell. Their eternal state is not determined by God not choosing them to heaven but by the fact that they rejected Jesus Christ. God has done all that He will do in providing salvation to man. God sent His Son to die on the cross for all. God sent His Spirit to convict all of sin. God gave His Word that along with the Spirit draws all men to truth. God gave the church to spread the gospel. Now the part of man is to receive or reject, man must now choose. Those that God will reject and cast into hell will be there because they rejected God. What of you today? Have you received the Lord Jesus Christ within? Have you repented of sin and called on Jesus Christ to save your soul? Or have you rejected the Savior?
