Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Paul was thankful for this local church and these people and he prayed for them daily with joy. As we read the Bible we can not say that about every church that Paul ministered unto, that he prayed for them with joy. What was it about this church and these people that filled Paul with such joy, that gave him such confidence? It was not the church or the people but the Lord. Paul’s confidence was in Christ Jesus. (Verse 6) The reason he had such joy when thinking of them was because of their close walk with the Lord. Paul knew that if they kept close beside Jesus that they would be well and finish well. Remember our illustration with the GPS? If we listen and follow the directions coming from the GPS we will finish our journey well. Listen to the Bible dear Christian, follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. (The Spirit will never lead away from the Word.) And we can have confidence that we will finish well.
