What can we be confident in or who? The first thing that I would point out is the simple meaning of the text. We can be confident that God will finish what He begins. I can’t tell you how many times people tell me they are going to do things and they never get done. People often have good intentions that they do not follow through on. The thing that keeps me from getting overly frustrated is the fact that I have done the very same thing. But we never have this problem with God. God always finishes what He starts. What a blessed truth this is when we apply it first to salvation. Salvation is not a work of man but of God and as such is not dependent upon man but on God. As many times as we fail the Lord in this life after salvation if were up to us none of us would finish. But God always finishes what He starts. I know that if something were to happen to me today, and today I will drive about 800 miles, that I will find myself in heaven, and not because I deserve it but because God always finishes what He starts. What a blessed truth.
