May 25th, 2012 by Pastor SolleyHeb 11:1-6 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
On Monday we pay tribute to whom tribute is due, to those fallen soldiers from all the wars of our nation. I am reminded of those who are remembered, of Washington, Lee, Audie Murphy and so on. But there are thousands more who are not named in the history of our great nation but are just as important to the freedom we have. Hebrews 11 is a catalogue of God’s soldiers, many of them remembered because they are named. But as one reads the chapter you come across many who are not named. They are called “Others” in this chapter. They were just as great in faith, just as strong in the Lord,. Just as important as those named if not more. One thing we can be sure of is that God remembers them and their names are important to God. Christian, we may not be noticed by many in this world and remembered by few after we leave it. But our Lord and Savior, our God, will not forget our faithfulness to Him. Let us remember the soldiers of faith this Memorial Day as well.
