35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. 36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. 37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; 38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. 40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
“Blesses be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord”. This is the message the Pharisees wanted silenced, the truth that they ignored. They wanted no king in their life, no one to take away their position of power in Israel. Yet there stood the Messiah, the King of Israel, the savior of the world and not all of Jerusalem it seemed was singing praises to His name. They called for Jesus to rebuke the disciples and the people. Notice the answer of Jesus in verse 40. Were the people to keep silent the stones would have called out His name. Jesus said it so it is true and I believe it, even the stones would have praised the name of Jesus Christ. I want you to consider this morning the privilege it is to say a word for Jesus, to be a witness for Him. Many today have no desire at all to be a witness for the Lord, to share their testimony with others, to point the lost to the Savior. Jesus is worthy my friend of your praise and Jesus is worthy and able to meet the needs of the lost. But people need to hear of Him, need to be told about Him. The world today is doing all it can to silence the Christian and Christians are allowing it to happen. When was the last time you handed someone a gospel tract, talked to someone about the Lord, went out knocking on doors? Those who obey the command of Christ in this area are becoming fewer and fewer. Don’t let the stones do what God has called you to do. Don’t let the world silence your voice.
