6:1 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. 2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. 3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. 4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. 5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? 6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, 9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
“What are they among so many”? That was the question asked by Andrew and it was a good question. Jesus is about to teach His disciples a great lesson, little things add up when given to the Lord. As they started to distribute this little amount of food to the multitude they found it never ran out. 5,000 men were fed that day plus all that were with them. It may seem that we have little to offer at times but a little in the hands of the Lord is much. I wonder about that lad at times. What became of him, what did he do with his life after this? He was a witness to the power of Jesus Christ, he gave the little he had and our Lord did much with it. Did he then continue to give what he could to Jesus? Did he give Jesus his life, his time, his energy? I wonder at times what happened to him. It is the same with the Christian. Not one of God’s children have been kept from the power and miracles of the Lord. We came to know that at salvation did we not? A sinner turned from hell to heaven, from sin to salvation in Jesus name. No greater miracle than that can ever take place. Yet do we then give what we can to Jesus? Do we give Him our time, our energy, our service? What can we do we often ask all the while forgetting that with Jesus little is much, with Jesus little things add up. Give Him what little you can today.
