Daily Devotions

Psalm 32:8-9 8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:
I will guide thee with mine eye.
9 Be ye not as the horse,
Or as the mule, which have no understanding:
Whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle,
Lest they come near unto thee.

Yesterday we looked at hearing the voice of God, being responsible to listen. Today we see the desire of God to guide His children. (Verse 8) We are not to be like the horse or mule. They can be made to go a certain direction with a bit in the mouth and a bridle around the head. They can be forced to do what the rider, what the owner wants them to do. But most often they also fight along the way. That is why they need the bit and bridle. God doesn’t want us to be like that so He has given us eyes to see and the Word to give us direction. Yes it is the “eye” of God that we see in verse 8. But remember His eyes see all, the beginning from the end, first and last. And by the wisdom and vision of His eye He has laid out a path we are to follow. We can look to Him and follow if we choose, it will be the higher way, it will be the better way. Or like the horse or mule we can fight Him all the way as well. I have never had a bit in my mouth but I can’t imagine it is a good thing to have that pulling you in the direction the owner wants you to go. It would be much better to follow.
