Eph 4:30-32 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Yesterday we took note of how the lost person can grieve the Holy Spirit. Yet this passage is written to born again believers. How then can the saved person grieve the Holy Spirit? Take note that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit, sealed by the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation. (Verse 30) We then have the Spirit of God within us to guide us into the truth of the Word of God, to lead us in the will of God, to take us away from the paths of sin, and to give power for service among other things. With those truths in mind we then can grieve the Holy Spirit in these ways. (1) By disregarding His presence in our lives. Where do we take Him, what do we expose Him to, what type of house do we keep for Him? (2) By not obeying His commands and following His direction. The Holy Spirit of God will never lead contrary to the Word of God. We grieve Him when we will not obey the Word of God, when we not walk in the light in which He is leading. (3) When we will not serve the Lord. He gives power for service to each and every child of God. Not all are called into the same area of service but all are called to serve. (4) By not allowing Him to produce the fruit of God in our lives. With Spiritual life comes the ability to produce, or allow spiritual fruit to be produced in us. Yes we as believers can grieve the Holy Spirit. Let us begin today to seek His filling, seek His guidance, seek His power in our lives. Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God.
