1 John 3:11-12 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. 12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

A very simple command is given in verse 11 of our text. What must we do in this world to have a good report? Demetrius knew the answer to that, “Follow not that which is evil, but that which is good.” We all we make choices today. What TV program to watch, what to look at on the internet, where to go, what to say and on and on. All of us will make choices today. Very few of them will fall into a category of being neither good or evil, most of them will be of one or the others. A problem many people have today is judging if something is evil or good. Notice the test in verse 11. If it is of God it will always be good. If it is in agreement of His Word, does not violate His holiness, it is good. If not it most probably is evil. Make your choices today in light of the Word of God, follow after good. What you will find is that you will have a good report with God and with man. Even with the lost. Just the other day I received a call from a person asking for prayer. This person a few years ago was so mad at me, calling me judgmental and unloving because of a stand taken against sins of the flesh. Yet they called me asking for prayer. Do the right thing, follow after good, and you will find you have a good report even in the eyes of your foes.
