December 23rd, 2011 by Pastor SolleyLuke 2:25-33 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart In peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
The wonder of Christmas is the wonder of salvation. Simeon saw God’s salvation when he looked upon the Christ child and that is exactly what we need to see today when we look upon Jesus. I see all the Christmas decoration as I drive around, nativity scenes in yards, lights on the houses, trees in the windows with all the lights and such and I wonder what people are looking at when they look at Christmas. I am not against Christmas decoration but I still wonder what people are looking at when they look at Christmas. This seems to hold true, that the people who decorate the most have the least interest in the Lord or spiritual things. What people need to see more clearly than anything else at Christmas time is God’s salvation. Simeon saw his need for salvation and God’s provided savior. But not just a savior for Simeon, a savior for all mankind. A savior that would be given for whosoever would come unto Him. The invitation is still open to all, Jesus will still save all, all still need to hear of God’s salvation in and through Jesus Christ. What are you looking at this Christmas?
