Daily Devotions

Luke 2:1-7 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Beth-lehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

The appointed time had now arrived. The promise made in Gen 3:15 was about to be made sure. A nation had been set apart, a tribe chosen, a family picked out and finally the virgin that would conceive and the man espoused to her. Now ever the place of His coming into the world was set. What the world needed, all creation had been waiting for, Israel had longed for was about to be realized. The Son that was given, the child was about to be born. Yet we find that there was no room for Jesus. I have often wondered about that, about why God would send His Son to the world at a time and in a place where there would be no room for Him, not even a room for Him to be born. Yet it is so prophetic is it not? How many have room for Jesus today. Room for a tree, room for an office party, room for presents, room for family gatherings, room for TV specials, but no room for Jesus. Christmas is of course on Sunday this year and it saddens me to see so many churches closing their doors on this special day. Every Sunday of the year we have Sunday School at 9:00AM, Morning Worship at 11:00AM, and Evening Worship at 7:00PM. We will do the same on Christmas Day. Yet even those who profess to be fundamental Bible believing churches, fundamental independent Baptist churches around us are not holding their regular services. So Sunday night service, no Sunday School. But what is the message they are sending? No room for Jesus in the inn.
