December 13th, 2011 by Pastor SolleyMatt 2:1-6 Now when Jesus was born in Beth-lehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. 5 And they said unto him, In Beth-lehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 6 And thou Beth-lehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
People rush all around today looking for that perfect gift for Christmas. They did the same thing last year and will do the same thing next year. But I wonder how many people remember what they received for Christmas last year, two or three years ago? And I also wonder how much they used that perfect gift. Several years ago we purchased gifts cards for an individual and placed them in a card for Christmas. A few years later that individual died. We then received some things from the family, books, clothes and the like. Tucked away in one of the books were the gift cards we gave then for Christmas which had never been used. So much for the perfect gift. Not so when you give someone the gospel message, not so when one is looking for Jesus and finds Him. The wise men found that perfect gift, that one when received is never forgotten, never wears out or never runs out. The perfect gift for Christmas is Jesus Christ. Instead of looking for that perfect gift for “Uncle Joe” this year invite him to church, share the gospel with Him, bring Him to the Savior. If he gets saved you will have introduced him to that perfect gift. And by the way the gift cards were still good and my wife and I used them. That is casting your bread upon the waters.
