Philippians 3:12-14 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

When does a Christian reach that mark, reach that goal? According to the Bible, never in this world. Paul was pressing on, striving to get closer to the Lord, to grow stronger spiritually, to serve more, to love more, to reach the mark. So many today live as if they have reached a level that God is satisfied with. As a result we see more and more professing Christians doing less and less for the Lord. Visitation has become something for others to do. Church attendance for those who need it. Prayer an exercise when there is a need. Bible reading for the unlearned. That is the church that we see on the scene today. Weak spiritually, serving the world more than Christ, living as if they have reached the mark or the goal. But is that the type of church and Christian the Lord is looking for? Of course not. God wants us giving to Him, not part way but sold out for Him. God wants us to be pressing onward, reaching for the mark set before us. Don’t live as if you have attained, reach for the mark, press toward the mark.
