Jeremiah 29:12-14
Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

Why is it that the Lord seems so far away from so many people? Even many Christians, or at least professing Christian long for but seldom know the nearness of the Lord. It is because few seek Him with their whole heart. Israel was in captivity because of sin, because they turned away from God to idols. No doubt they were calling out to God during this time, giving God lip service. But God wanted heart service, God wanted Israel to seek Him with all the heart. Does God want any less from us today? I think not. Yet what is the first thing you did this morning. Many turned on the TV before they went to the Lord in prayer, before they picked up the Bible. How much of your heart is really given to the Lord. The more of us God has, the more of our heart, the more we feel the nearness of the Lord.
