John 14:13-17 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:13 is a favorite Scripture to many. What a blessing to know that God promises to do whatsoever we ask. Yet many never consider the context in which that promise is given and when their prayers seem to go unanswered they think God has broken a promise. Notice the follow verses as well as verse 13, they hold the key to answered prayer. First, are w praying in such a way that the Father and the Son would be glorified or are we praying for our own selfish desires? (Verse 13) Second, are we praying in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ? The only way to do that is to have a personal relationship with Him (Verse 14) Third, are we abiding in Him? Always seeking His will, always by His power and grace walking in obedience to His Word? (Verses 15 – 16) Lastly, are we walking in the Holy Spirit of truth? (Verse 17) Yes God does promise t answer our prayers, but are we doing our part by walking with Him?
