Ps 39:12-13 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.
13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
KJV
The word stranger brings some things to mind and most of them not good. Children are told not to talk to strangers, not to accept gifts from strangers, not to go places with a stranger and rightly so. But in Psalm 39 David states that he is a stranger with the Lord. (Verse 12) Now we find that it is never bad thing to be a stranger with the Lord. The first use of the word stranger in the Bible is found in Gen, 15:13 where Abraham is told that his decedents will be “A stranger in a land that is not theirs.” They would be in Egypt but not of Egypt for they were people of God and strangers in the land. The last use of the word is in Acts 7:29 where the same thing is said of Moses. It is never a bad thing to be a stranger with the Lord and one is seen as strange when he or she does not go along with the world. However it is certainly a terrible thing to be stranger to the Lord. There is huge difference there my friend and I pray this morning that you are no stranger to the Lord. Does Jesus know you today, does He call out your name so you can follow Him, is He used to hearing your prayers, hearing your praise, spending time with you as you read His Word? Which one are you this morning, a stranger with the Lord or a stranger to the Lord? Don’t be a stranger to the Lord, come to the Savior today.
