James 4:13-15 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
KJV
The word never does not appear in our reading this morning but it is one I hear often from people. Some will say “I would never do that” or “That would never happen to me” and so on. Most people tend to forget that what takes place tomorrow can change the never in their lives. There is only one that can use the word never and have it mean something, that is God. When Jesus said the one who receives living water from Him would never thirst again it meant something. (John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.) When Jesus said those that receive Him as their Savior would never perish it means something. (John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.) When we are told that He will never leave us nor forsake us it does mean something. (Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.) I try and limit my use of the word never and at the same time rejoice in the times that God uses the word never.
