8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Paul willingly gave up all things that he once thought were of much gain to himself. Why? Because they were keeping the full and excellent knowledge of Christ from him. Paul knew the Lord, knew the power of the Lord, knew the love of the Lord, but wanted to know those things in a greater and deeper way. The Bible says “All things” in verse eight so we are not given a specific list of the things Paul counted for loss but what of the things in our lives that keep us from knowing the Lord in a deeper and greater way? Could it be we count for the loss the hours we spend on social media and spend more time in His Word? Could it be we count for the loss the needless worry we often put ourselves through and give our burdens to Him? Could it be we count for loss the hours we spend away from the house of God and be found in His presence when the church doors are open? What in my life can I count for loss today so that I might know Him in a deeper and greater way?
