1 Cor 2:1-2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
KJV
Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to keep what you have determined to do? We make many such determinations and most of them seem to fall by the wayside. Most New Year resolutions have already been broken by those who determined to keep them. Some have determined to read through the Bible during 2026 and that may or may not happen. Some have determined to pray more in 2026 and that may or may not happen. Paul was one that was determined and as you study the life of that man in the Bible you are left with the conclusion that he was able to fulfill what he determined to do. How? His first determination was to know Jesus Christ and live a life in view of what Jesus had done for him. How could Paul keep going with all the troubles and trials he faced? He was determined. How could Paul sing praises unto God in a prison cell? He was determined. How could Paul do what God wanted him to do when it took him all the way to the chopping block of Rome? He was determined. Above all Paul was determined to please and serve the one who had delivered him from sin and hell and reserved for him a place in heaven. When we make such a determination, to do all to the glory of God, to live a life pleasing to our Savior, we can ask for His help and see that determination come to pass. Paul used the word determined three times as the Holy Spirit inspired him to write it down and if you look those places up you will find Paul kept what he determined to do.
