6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
KJV
Those men in that ship had spent all night fishing and caught nothing and as it turns out they had been casting their fishing nets on the wrong side of the ship. It reminds me of another place the word cast is used in the Bible. (1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.) How many problems, how many worries, how many troubles do we carry in this life day after day? We may try and take care of them, do all we can, and they still remain. I wonder how many times we are casting them on the wrong side of the ship? Why not listen to the words of Jesus, loving words, caring words, capable words, and cast all of our cares upon Him? That is what He tenderly commands us to do. What if those men in the ship would have reasoned in their own minds that they had tried all night and it was not worth the effort to cast those heavy nets again? What would they have missed? Yes they would have missed the multitude of fishes but they would also have missed another lesson of what giving all the cares and worries they carried in this life to Jesus and the peace and blessings that would bring into their lives. What do we miss when we continually cast on the wrong side of the ship?
