5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

If any man in the Bible had reason to boast in and of himself it was Saul of Tarsus. The Bible tells us that in verse four above. That man did great things in the flesh and was depending upon his works in the Jewish religion to get him to heaven. Saul had a great zeal but there was something missing in his life. One day on a dusty road he found the one that was missing, Saul was missing Christ, Saul was in need of a savior. The day Saul met Christ everything changed. (Phil 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.) What is missing in your life today? Who is missing in your life today? Everything changed for Saul of Tarsus that day including his name as we known him as the apostle Paul. What Paul lost, and we see those things in our reading this morning, were replaced by Christ and Christ is far better. What is it that you boast of today that needs to be lost so you can know Jesus Christ as your personal savior? Good works, good intentions, hope in self, hope in religion, all of those things need to be lost and when Christ is gained it is worth it all.
