Ex 20:25 And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
KJV
Have you ever tried to build something without making a measurement or cut in the materials used in building it? Impossible. If I make something of wood I must measure two times, measure again, cut the wood and fit the pieces together. The same with bricks, I must measure and cut to make all things fit. Yet when God commanded an altar to be built they were not to cut any stone, use any tool or that altar would be polluted. That is a picture of our salvation in Jesus Christ. All things are done by Christ, all things are perfect in Christ, all things fit perfectly together because of Jesus Christ and our salvation is a work of Jesus Christ alone. If we try and do even the smallest of things, if we try and play the smallest of parts, we have polluted salvation and have taken away from what Jesus has done for us, we have taken away God’s perfect plan of salvation and we cannot be saved. That altar did fit perfectly together for God did all things and salvation works only when we let Jesus Christ do all things. Don’t lift a tool, Christ has done it all.
