What could Jesus be afraid of? The Bible says that He feared. What could Jesus be afraid of? The Greek language is a very precise in that words carry a specific meaning. This word for fear in this Greek form appears only one other place in the Bible. (Heb 12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:) There we see it as Godly fear. Jesus was not afraid of the cross, not afraid of the pain, not afraid of the anguish, not afraid of the suffering, not afraid of what was before Him. But Jesus was in absolute reverence to the Father, in absolute compliance to the will of the Father, willing to walk in obedience to the Father, His will and His Word. Yes, in obedience to the Bible for the cross is seen throughout the Old Testament Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 serving as examples. Jesus, even in His humanity never prayed to get out of the cross but did pray with strong tears and crying for the will of the Father to be carried out even though it would mean much suffering to Him. Why then does it seem so hard for us to just obey the Bible? What if we had the same reverence for God and the same desire to walk in His will? What a difference that would make in our lives today.
