Mark 16:15-20 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

The Great Commission also come with a promise of protection. (Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.) Some have taken the above verse to promote the handling of deadly snakes and the drinking of deadly poison, but that is not what the Bible means. However there is a promise of protection when we are engaged in the work of the Lord. That does not mean we will never be troubled, attacked, and many have died while serving the Lord. But it is a promise of Divine protection and most of the time that promise is fulfilled in ways we never think about. I will be leaving in a short time to meet one at the hospital for prayer before a procedure, then driving many miles to visit one shut in by age, then many miles home. I pray for safety as we travel today and if that is answered I know God has protected us. Standing behind the pulpit without incident, I know God has protected me. Meeting for prayer in the church house last evening, I know God protected us as we prayed for revival. We do have a promise of protection and for the apostles it was fulfilled in ways we see above. Paul was bitten by a viper and no harm came to him. We don’t know how many of the apostles may have been poisoned and no harm came to them. We don’t need to experience those things to have the protection hand of God upon us.
