John 15:1-4 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
KJV
I wonder how many of God’s children truly abide in Him? Two times in verse four the word abide is found so it must be important. To abide means to dwell with, to be present with, to stand with and we know that our savior is those things for us, that he abides with us. But do we abide with Him in the same way? This is the key to the Christian life, abiding with Christ. When we dwell with Him, stand with Him, we then find the cure of every earthly ill and trouble. Who could be a better friend? Who could be a better counselor? Who could be a better comforter? Who could be a better guide? Who could be a better defender? Who could be a better protector? Jesus Christ wants to be and can be all of those things for you and me today but we need to abide in Him? Who will you talk to first today, seek to hear from first today? Will it be the one who invites you to abide with Him or something or someone from the world who can never be for you what Jesus can be? Abide with Him.
