February 26th, 2025 by Pastor SolleyLuke 14:16-27 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

The certain man in this parable is the Lord Jesus Christ and we find that He had made a great supper and sent out invitations. (Those bidden.) The first invitation is to salvation, the second to be a follower of Jesus. The focus this morning is the excuses given to miss the supper. Note that none of them were accepted by Jesus. I wonder what excuses will be accepted when we all stand before the Lord Jesus Christ and give an account of our lives and what we did with His invitation? None is the answer? How many are the excuses we have made in our lifetime when we know our Lord has wanted us to do something for Him? Too busy with my possessions Lord to accept the invitation. (The new piece of ground.) Too busy with my work Lord to accept the invitation. (The five yoke of oxen.) Too busy with family Lord to accept the invitation. (The new wife.) Just too busy Lord to accept the invitation. How many are going to miss eternal life because they were just too busy? How many who have been born again are missing out on the blessings of God because they are just too busy? Don’t be so busy with the world and self that you miss the invitation extended to you.
