2 Cor 1:3-7 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
KJV
Suffering and consolation, which do you prefer? We all want the consolation, especially from our Lord. The word consolation studied out in the Bible means to be comforted, to be encouraged, to be treated tenderly and when that comes from Jesus it is very meaningful. But we also see that in order to have this full consolation we are going to go through some trials, some testing, some suffering. Verses four, five and six above put both of them together. While I would rather have one than the other they both come together. So in those times when suffering seems to abound I need to look for the one who can make consolations abound as well. Whatever you are suffering today, and all of us are in one way or another, look to the one who can console as none other. Jesus knows all about our troubles as the song says and Jesus can lift you above them with His endless consolation.
