Matt 1:19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
KJV
What made Joseph a just man before God? Yesterday we noted that Joseph was obedient to the voice of God and the Word of the Lord brought to him by the angel.
Joseph was also a man who took no pleasure in sin, the sin or others or his own. “Not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.” Mary did not sin of course, but at that moment Joseph did not know that and that was the only explanation he had for her being with child, Mary had sinned. Joseph did not want that sin known, did not take any pleasure in sin. Today is seems many Christians take pleasure in sin. Perhaps not acting in sin but viewing sin as entertainment. How many TV programs, movies, and other things do we watch that put sin on display? We may not act in sin but we do seem to take pleasure in sin. How many things do professing Christians engage in that are open sin? The problem is we often take pleasure in sin, not our own perhaps, but the sins of others. Sin should break our heart as I am sure the supposed sin broke the heart of Joseph. We ought to want to put the actions and thoughts of sin away as I know Joseph wanted to do. We ought to take no pleasure in sin. Joseph took no pleasure in sin.
