April 1st, 2024 by Pastor Solley1 Sam 23:1-2 Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.
2 Therefore David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
KJV
The word inquired is found thirty four times in the Bible. Both the Hebrew word and the Greek word translated inquired or inquire mean to search out, to ask, to seek after an answer. The man the word is most used in relation to is David. Over and over we find David inquiring of the Lord. David wanted to know the mind of God, needed the direction of God and David inquired often of the Lord. No wonder David is then called a man after the heart of God. (Acts 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.) What are we after today? Many who claim the name of Jesus will begin each day and never inquire of the Lord. Many who claim the name of Jesus will make life changing decisions and never inquire of the Lord. Many will make simple decisions and never inquire of the Lord. It is very easy to get into the habit of going about our daily business following after our daily pattern and never inquire of the Lord. What is your habit today? Is it to inquire of the Lord or is it to go about your day on your own? We will look at David inquiring of the Lord this week and we will see the necessity of doing so not some of the time but all of the time.
