KJV
The phrase be strong is found thirty six times in the Bible, just three of them in the New Testament, and the last in our Bible verse this morning. The most well known perhaps being the command given by God to Joshua. (Josh 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.) In the New Testament we are commanded to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. What is grace and how can grace help us, help me be strong? Grace is God’s unmerited favor. Grace is God giving to us what we could never earn. Grace is God giving blessings that we could never imagine. Grace is God giving strength for anything and everything we might go through in this world. We need to be strong in grace and we are strong in grace when we take the time to meditate upon all that our God has done for us, what our God is doing for us, and what our God is going to do for us. We can be strong in the Lord. (Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.) When we are strong in grace we then can finish well for the Lord. (1 Cor 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.) Those are the three times we find the command to be strong in the New Testament, all of them pointing to the strength we can find in Jesus Christ and when we are fully given to Jesus Christ we can then be strong in His grace. Only then can we finish well for our Lord.
