Acts 9:26-31 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.
27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.
29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.
30 Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.
31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
KJV
We see a time early in this church age when the churches had rest. The greatest persecutor of the church at that time was now born again and he would serve his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the rest of his life. The churches had rest. That does not mean the churches rested. They were very active at the beginning of this age and the churches need to be very active as we near the end of this age and the soon appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ first for His church and then with His church. Satan is active today blinding the eyes of the lost, pulling the world into darkness, and trying to silence the preaching of the gospel. The church needs to be active as well is telling others about Jesus Christ, in bringing the lost to Christ, in supporting the sound local churches with attendance and service. It is not time we rest from fulfilling the great commission left to us by Jesus, it is time to be more active as we see the day approaching. (Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.)
