Here we are promised a comforter, one that will abide with us forever. One of the ways the Holy Spirit comforts us is bringing the truths of God to our mind in times of need. (John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.) He will bring great and precious passages and promises of the Word of God to us. That is why it is so important to read our Bibles daily, I can’t remember what I have never taken in. Now when troubled I can ask for His perfect peace. (John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.) When in fear I can recall the courage of the shepherd boy. (1 Sam 17:32 And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.)
When feeling alone I can think of that great apostle and what my God did for him.
(2 Tim 4:16-17 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. 17 Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.) When there is no help to be found I can remember where I am to look. (Ps 121:1-2 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.) It is our comforter that brings all these things to our minds when we need them the most and those are not words on a page they are the very Words of the Almighty and living God.
