Num 4:46-49 All those that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the chief of Israel numbered, after their families, and after the house of their fathers,
47 From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that came to do the service of the ministry, and the service of the burden in the tabernacle of the congregation,
48 Even those that were numbered of them, were eight thousand and five hundred and fourscore.
49 According to the commandment of the Lord they were numbered by the hand of Moses, every one according to his service, and according to his burden: thus were they numbered of him, as the Lord commanded Moses
KJV
8,580 That was the number of Levites serving in the tabernacle. Few are the times we think about just how many people it took to get the work of the Lord done in the tabernacle and later the temple. It was more than the priests, it took thousands of people to get the work done. Some of them had very visible jobs and some did not, but all were important in the work of the Lord. Things have not changed in this day and age as it takes all of God’s people to get the work of the Lord done. Some have very visible jobs such as the pastor or the missionary or the evangelist and some do not but all are important in the work of the Lord. What of the ones cleaning the church, mowing grass, moving snow from the parking lot and other things than need done? What of the ones handing out tracts, inviting others to church? What of the ones spending hours in the prayer closet? What of the ones taking care of the babies during the services, teaching classes, singing in the choir, playing the piano? It takes more than just one or two to get the work of the Lord done and all are important to the Lord and the work. Are you part of the number that has been presented to work for the Lord today? Not all will have a visible job to do but all will have an important job to do.
