Ps 3:1-5 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
4 I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
KJV
“Now I lay me down to sleep, my soul I pray the Lord to keep.” So goes the beginning of my prayers as a young boy as I learned to pray long before I could pronounce the words at my mother’s side. Then there would follow a long list of things to set before the Lord in prayer and sweet sleep would follow. I no longer begin my prayers with those words but they do ring true as every born again child of God can lay down at night and sleep when we turn every part of our lives over to Christ. Many times we find ourselves in the same place David was as he wrote down the words of this Psalm and we can do the very same thing that David did, cry out to our Lord and Savior. We have the very same assurance that David had, our God hears and answers prayer. We also can have the same results when we turn all over to Him, we can lay down and sleep. Having trouble sleeping? Try resting in the Lord for God hears and answers your prayers.
