2 Cor 4:17-18 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
KJV
How many of our afflictions seem to be light? Not many for sure. That word means anguish, burdens, persecutions, and tribulations. How can any of those seem to be light? They are light when we consider what is ahead for the born again believer in Jesus Christ. We are to lift our eyes above the present troubles of this life no matter how hard and difficult they might be and look toward things yet to come. When the disciples were afflicted Jesus told them “Let not your heart be troubled”. When the burden seemed hard to bear Jesus told them “My yoke is easy and my burden is light”. Although many times not easy we are to look toward things we have yet to see with these physical eyes. Our afflictions in this world are but for a moment when looked at in the light of eternity. I see verse 17 above as a scale with my afflictions on one side and eternal glory on the other. One indeed is light while the other tips the scales in favor of glory, eternal glory.
