Prov 26:20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
KJV
Almost every morning right now I will think of this verse as I add to or build a fire. We heat with wood through these cold winter months and I am always adding wood to a fire or building one if I did not rise in the night to keep it going. A fire needs wood to burn, wood to provide heat, wood to keep our home warm. Not speaking about gossip as this verse points to this morning but about keeping a fire going in a good way, a spiritual fire. To keep a spiritual fire going in my heart I need to add to it, I need to place wood on that fire everyday. I need to read my Bible, I need to pray, I need to meditate upon the things of God, I need to keep that fire burning. It is always harder to start a fire than to keep one going so I need to constantly keep wood on my fire. I also need to keep away from my fire things that will smother it and cause it to go out. No stones were thrown into my furnace this morning, no ashes, nothing to stop the wood from burning. In the same way I need to keep things our of my life that might hinder my spiritual fire. Keeping a fire burning is an important thing right now in January. It is more important that I keep a spiritual fire burring each and every day of my life.
