Song 2:15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
1 Chron 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.
KJV
Satan brings another little fox into the life of David, the little fox of pride. David had no reason to number the people, David knew God did not want this, David received counsel not to number the people. (1 Chron 21:2-4 And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it. 3 And Joab answered, The Lord make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel? 4 Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.) By the end of this chapter God chastens David and the people as well. What moved David, what spoiled the vine? That little fox of pride. As Joab pointed out they were not David’s people, they were God’s people. David did not build up the nation, God did. David did not sustain the nation, God was doing that? Pride does nothing good when it is left unchecked in our lives. I say unchecked because we all are given to pride from time to time. We must remember what we can do without the Lord. Nothing. We must remember what we are without the Lord. Nothing. We must remember what we have that we have not been given by the grace of God. Nothing. We must remember what will be left of us if we allow pride to take over in our lives. Nothing. Beware of that little fox of pride.
