Song 2:15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
KJV
Another little fox we need be aware of is the little fox of leisure. We all need time to rest and relax and Jesus took His disciples apart so they could get some rest. But we do need to keep things in balance. (2 Sam 11:1 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.) We are not told exactly why David did not go out to battle as he had done in the past. The Bible says David tarried at Jerusalem. The Hebrew word suggests that David sat while others went out, David was at leisure when he should have been active. There is a danger when we allow ourselves to be at leisure when we need to be at work, when we need to be active. The sins that David commits in this chapter may have been avoided of David has just gotten up and went where he was supposed to be. I say may have been avoided because Satan would have attacked David in another way. But what if David had just been doing what he knew he should do? Idle hands are the devil’s playground is a saying I heard often growing up and we need to be active. David did not sin by staying behind but that little fox of leisure led him to sins he never would have dreamed of committing before this time. Beware of leisure when we need be active.
