Luke 24:30-32 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
KJV
How often does your heart burn within as you are talking with Jesus in prayer, as He talks to you through His Word? I must confess not often enough. What a privilege to speak to the Savior and to hear His voice through His Holy and eternal Word. Yet how often many just go through the motions of prayer and reading the Bible as if it is a duty they would rather not have to fulfill. In my memory I can still hear my mother’s voice calling out to me, my father’s voice calling my name, and would love to be able to answer them. Yet looking back I can also recall not wanting to hear and not wanting to answer depending upon the circumstances. O if only I could hear and answer today. But I can hear from my Savior, I can answer Him. I can talk to Jesus, I can hear His voice through His Word and it should be the highlight of my day. Christian, we do not have to pray and He will still be our heavenly Father and Jesus still our Savior. Christian, we do not have to read His Word and He will still be our heavenly Father and Jesus still our Savior. But He does want to warm your heart today by allowing you to talk to Him, He does want to warm your heart today by speaking directly to you. How will you go about your prayer time today, how will you go about your Bible reading today? Our hearts should burn within.
