10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
KJV
The faults of Jonah have been preached about over the years. How Jonah disobeyed God. How Jonah thought those he was being sent to did not deserve salvation. How Jonah went down instead of out. How Jonah hid the fact he was a prophet. The many faults of Jonah have been preached on over the years but there is one that is often forgotten. Jonah was not thankful. Notice it is when Jonah cries out with the voice of thanksgiving that God moves the fish to vomit Jonah out onto the dry land. Was Jonah blind to how God had blessed him to the point that he was not thankful? The Bible indicates that Jonah was one who seldom if ever gave thanks to the Lord. How much a part that unthankful nature played in God chastening Jonah we do not know. Was it that unthankful nature that moved Jonah to disobey God? Was it that unthankful nature that moved Jonah to think others did not deserve salvation? Was it that unthankful nature that made Jonah think he knew more than God? Was it an unthankful nature that moved Jonah to go down and not out? None of these things we know for sure but this one thing we do know, it was not until Jonah gave thanks that he was set on the dry ground once again. Be thankful today.
