October 5th, 2023 by Pastor Solley1 Kings 19:8-10 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

Elijah was a great man of God who did many mighty things through the power of God during his time on this earth. Still in this passage we find something that Elijah needed, something Elijah could not do without. Elijah needed to hear from God. As God fed His servant Elijah gained the strength to go on to mount Horeb and once there Elijah was given the comfort and strength that comes from that still small voice. (1 Kings 19:12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.) Jesus Christ is our bread of life today and the way that He speaks to us is though His Word. In just a few moments I will be able to open my Bible and hear the very voice of God in that same way that Elijah did. Will you begin your day by reading His Word? Will you allow God to strengthen you as you begin your day with Him? Will you find the Lord this morning and allow Him to equipt you for the day that you will face. Elijah received strength from hearing from God and so will we if we allow God to speak to us and spend some time in His Word.
