Kings 19:4-9 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

God strengthened His discouraged prophet by sending one to help him. We have Divine help within in the person of the Holy Spirit and I also believe in angels as ministering spirits today. God fed His prophet and we have the Word of God to feed upon daily. We see this morning that God led His prophet as well. Elijah was led through the trouble to what many would see as an unlikely place if they stopped reading after verse nine. Why a mountain, why a cave? Because Elijah needed more than anything else at that time to be apart and alone with God. Many are the times when we need the very same thing but will not follow the Lord to that place. We want company, we want to be surrounded by good things, we want what the world says will be a help to us and all the while what we really need is to be apart and alone with our Lord and Savior. Don’t resist when it seems the Lord is leading to a lonely place for that is often exactly where we need to be. To be apart and alone with the Lord is never a bad thing, it is always a good thing. Read the rest of this chapter and you will see that it was good, very good for Elijah to be apart and alone with the Lord.
