12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

One problem that many of us have is that we do not run from sin the way Joseph did. Joseph is one of few in the Bible of which there is nothing negative said about him. Moses, Jeremiah, David, the disciples of Jesus, the apostle Paul all have negative things about them recorded in the Bible. But not Joseph. Why? Joseph ran from sin. We may not engage in sin but we certainly don’t run from sin. In fact it seems that many professing Christians stay as close to sin as they possibly can. Then we wonder why we don’t receive the blessings of God the way others have. Remember what the Bible tells is in Ephesians 4:27 “ Neither give place to the devil.” When we fail to run from sin we give Satan that smallest of footholds in our lives and one thing we know of Satan is that he is never satisfied with a small victory, a small foothold, he always wants more. David did not one day decide to commit a sin, tell a lie and then murder. That had to have started with allowing Satan a small place in his life. We often say what if David fled from that rooftop instead of lingering there and then inquiring after Bathsheba? But what if David had never allowed a place, even the smallest of places for Satan? Perhaps then David would never have experienced that very dark place in his life. Flee, run from sin.
