Ex 14:13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
KJV
There are a few times that Israel is commanded to stand still in the Bible and one is in our text for this morning. Israel was in a terrible place, so the people thought. Brought out of Egypt, delivered by blood, they were free and on the way to the Promised Land. But the Lord led them into a place where they would be tested. The Red Sea before them, mountains to the left and right of them and Pharaoh and his army coming behind them. There was nothing they could do. They could not go left, right, or straight ahead, there was nothing they could do. But there was one thing, they could stand still and see what God could do. Moses encouraged them to leave all in the capable hands of Jehovah God and see the salvation of the Lord. How many wanted to turn and surrender to Pharaoh we do not know. How many wanted to break away on their own we do not know. How many just gave up we do not know. What we do know is they stood still, as hard as that must have been, they stood still. We need to learn that lessons in our lives today, stand still. Don’t give up, don’t run, stand still and wait on the Lord. Do we mean any less to Jesus than they did? I think not. Are our trials something Jesus cannot deliver us from? I think not. Can we stand still and wait on the Lord? Many times the answer to that is as well “I think not”. But when we do trust when there is nothing we can do. When we wait on the Lord. When we stand still more than we could possible think our God delivers us. There are mountains of trial surrounding us at times. There are seas of trouble before us that cannot be crossed. There are at times nothing we can do. But there is one thing, we can stand still before our God. Stand still.
