14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
KJV
When we hear the word pity we think of one feeling sorry for the plight of another but not really being able to do anything to help beyond feeling sorry. That is not what the word pitieth means in this verse. This Hebrew word means to be filled with love and compassion, not to feel sorry. What is the difference? When the Lord looks upon us He remembers our frame, He remembers what we are made of. (Verse 14) Because He loves us so much He gives Himself for us, He has great compassion for us in our times of weakness. God does not feel sorry for us, God does something to help us. I have heard people say over the years that they don’t want to be pitied. That is something I crave for and need, the Father to pity me, to love me, to take care of me. Pity may not be something one wants when you look at circumstances through the eyes of man, not to want people to just feel sorry for you and do nothing to help in your time of need. But pity from God means God loves you and is there to help you.
